Staring at the clock song 2:30am and sleep feeling very far way from you, a sight that many of us have seen at least once in our lives. Why sleep is escaping you could be for various reasons and sometimes writing down a few could be the solution to counting sheep in the early hours of the morning. But if you’re looking for a practical guide to sleeping well, the best sleep aid and essentially how to get a good night’s sleep, then keep on reading!

Build your evening routine

A classic but essential tip for sleep help is to build out what a relaxing evening looks like for you and can therefore help you sleep. It may be adding a few drops of essential oils to your bath, placing a calming candle or sleep diffuser in your in your space to work their magic (hint SIESTA FOREVER and KEEP THE PEACE Relaxing Aromatic Candle and Diffuser!) or a series of gentle yoga movements to slowly wind down to. Try to steer away from screens, caffeine and alcohol before bed that could stimulate your brain and plan a relaxing evening in to help you sleep better!

Create your own spa shower or bath

At TEMPLESPA we say ‘spa wherever you are’ and that includes your shower or bath! We love to use essential oils for sleeping like lavender, patchouli and chamomile in our Peace & Relaxation products to aid in unwinding and sleeping well again.

For our spa-like shower or bath, we’ll start with a spritz of the best-selling QUIETUDE Chill Out & Sleep Well Mist whilst running the bath or the shower is warming up. Take a few breaths of the relaxing essential oil blend and feel frazzled, busy thoughts ebb away. If you’re in the bath then a drizzle of DRIFT AWAY Relaxing Bathing & Massage Oil helps to bring the scent of the spa to your bathroom, or post-shower lock-in hydration and give yourself a good deep massage with this oil!

‘A good night’s sleep in a jar!”

Known as REPOSE Relaxing Night Cream, our vitamin-rich night cream has added relaxing essential oils so you can sleep well and wake up with youthful, glowing skin by morning! As well as being a great evening moisturiser, you can generously massage some between your palms then cup your hands around your nose and take 3 deep belly breaths (or more if needed!). We love to do this just before we go to bed for a mini meditation ritual and help settle us in for a better sleep.

Note it down

By writing down and offloading your worries and concerns onto paper, this can help you sleep well as the thoughts, plans and to-do lists for tomorrow aren’t swimming around your brain, keeping it awake and stopping you from sleeping! Place a small pad and pen next to your bed to remind you to start writing, try dividing it into areas like ‘worries’ ‘things to do’ ‘gratitudes’ etc or however you want to structure your mindless journaling. Either way, how to get a good night’s sleep is greatly improved by learning how to switch off before hitting the sack.

Try a full body scan

This will take some regular practice but keep it up and see how natural it becomes before going to sleep. Start at the bottom at your toes and feet, settling them still then focus on ‘scanning’ each body limb and area as you work your way upwards gradually. Don’t be tempted to skip over any areas or whizz by too quickly, really look at what physical tension you may be holding or even aches and pains you could look at for another time. Stick to a full body meditative scan each evening to discover the amazing stress-relieving benefits and your new best sleep aid.
